With Phuket in a state of disaster, Avi and I had to adjust our route.  Fortunately, Apichai's family was able to intervene with a plan: spending New Year's at a resort in Cha-am, located on Thailand's eastern coast and far away from the devastation to the southwest.

So we woke up Friday and embarked on yet another three hour drive, this time through Phetchaburi and down to the Imperial Lakeview Hotel and Golf Club down in Cha-am.  These long drives afforded Avi and I a great opportunity to listen to incredible tunes like Kumar Sanu's Tera Mera Pyaar.  Over.  And.  Over.  [See the video]

Finally, at about 4:30 PM, we arrived:

The lobby featured a Thai rendition of a Christmas tree:

The resort grounds:

Before we knew it, it was almost 6 PM... which signified the time for another sunset:

I also got the chance to meet a real live rooster:

Night fell, and Avi, Apichai and his parents, and I enjoyed a great buffet dinner at the resort (the pho was particularly good).

One Avi illness and a game of snooker later, it was midnight, where we joined the other hotel guests for a New Year's celebration on the grounds.  [See the video]

On 31 December 2004, it was 88°F during the day and 72°F at night.
